Protect Nature for our future: Children's message to Commissioner Vella
Today in Brussels, over 7,500 school children from Belgium decided to use their drawings to give EU Environment Commissioner Karmenu Vella their wish for a world where humans can live in harmony with nature.
This is their message to the European Commission:
"We are writing this letter to Jean-Claude Juncker (European Commission President) and Karmenu Vella (European Commissioner for the Environment). Thank you for listening to us.
We have noticed that pollution increases and nature and the animals are suffering from it. We are children but every time we take a decision, we think first of its impact on the environment. For example, we wanted to release balloons in the sky but we thought about it and did not do it because it could cause pollution. Even though it would have been really nice to do it, we don’t want to kill animals. Environment is in our priorities and comes before what we want!!!
And you? Do you always think about the environment before you take your decisions??? Because your decisions are important for nature and our future. We are children and the future is before us.
Can you re-create icebergs for polar bears? Can you resuscitate bees who die each day because of pesticides? Can you make sure we don’t get cancer because of some toxic products?
If you can’t, then we are demanding that you take good decisions for you, for us, for the future.
Thank you for listening to us."
