Stop Bankrupting Our Oceans
All aboard for sustainable fisheries!
In February 2013, the European Parliament voted almost 5 to 1 in favour of healthy oceans and sustainable fishing. And in May, Parliament reached an agreement with Fisheries Ministers on the CFP reform package.
While not perfect, for the first time ever, Europe’s fishing laws will support the recovery of fish stocks and could finally end overfishing.
Reform also delivered increased transparency, stakeholder participation, regionalisation, and sustainable fishing partnership with non EU countries.
This could not have happened without your support. The reform shows what we can achieve through citizen power. You and hundreds of thousands of others across Europe told our politicians to stop bankrupting our oceans – and they listened.
Thank you.
We will continue to campaign on fisheries and marine conservation to ensure that the new policy is properly implemented. The next step is to ensure the revised European Marine and Fisheries Fund supports healthy oceans.
As we continue to campaign, we will need your support again. If you’d like to remain involved, please check back here regularly for campaign updates.
