Potential delay of the EU Deforestation Regulation - Joint letter

Posted on October, 07 2025

WWF, together with the #Together4Forests coalition, has sent a letter urging Commission President Ursula von der Leyen not to postpone the application of the EU Deforestation Regulation once again.

Last week, European Commissioner for Environment, Jessika Roswall, announced that the Commission intends to propose, for the second time, a delay of the application of the EUDR, alleging the existence of issues with the law’s “information system”.

Delays with the implementation of the EUDR will have a clear and direct impact on climate and the environment, as well as on the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities. Acording to a recent analysis, one tree is lost each second due to EU consumption, while European forests are not spared from degradation linked to their economic exploitation.
