WWF Joins EU High-level Expert Group on Sustainable Finance in Low and Middle-Income Countries

Posted on September, 27 2022

WWF will be part of the new EU high-level group of experts (HLEG) on scaling up sustainable finance in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).  WWF will advocate for private finance to deliver greater investment in sustainable and people-centred development, as well as for improved integration of environmental and climate risks in the EU’s investments in LMICs, especially in the context of the Global Gateway

Alice Ruhweza, Africa Regional Director is WWF’s appointed representative on this new expert group.

Alice Ruhweza, Africa Regional Director at WWF International said:
“We are delighted to be part of this expert group, which can have a critical role in making low and middle-income countries' economies more sustainable. We want to focus on prioritising decent job creation, stimulating environmental protection and social inclusion, and fighting against inequalities and climate change. Together, we can shape a transformative action for an equitable, nature-positive and carbon-neutral world. This vision should be at the heart of the EU's investments in LMICs.”

This new expert group will advise the Commission on several topics, particularly the Strategy for Financing the Transition to a Sustainable Economy, a plan to accelerate international and private capital flow towards sustainable investments in LMICs.
