NGO letter on the urgent need for an EU Sustainable Food System Law

22 NGOs urge the European Commission to include this law in its work plan for 2023.
Our food systems are leading to unhealthy and fundamentally unsustainable diets, and to address this, the European Commission is expected to put forward a proposal for a legislative framework on Sustainable Food Systems in 2023. However, disappointingly, Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen’s address on the State of the Union on 12 September failed to mention this law or the urgent need to transition to more sustainable food systems. 22 NGOs have sent a letter requesting the Commission to stand by the timeline and include the EU Sustainable Food System Law in its work plan for 2023.
